Equine Science Class
A hands-on equine science course for high school students who love animals, learning, and life on the farm.
Cost: $480 for the year | Payment plans available
Classes meet on Wednesdays, rotating between Zoom instruction from 9–10 AM and hands-on farm/lab days from 9–11 AM.
The Barnabas Stables Equine Science Course
Orientation is scheduled for August 26, with classes beginning September 2. Registration must be completed by August 21, and the class will be offered as long as the minimum enrollment requirement is met.
Do you have a student who loves all things animals?! Looking for an outside-the-box elective or full lab science credit for your high schooler? This introductory, online equine science class is being offered for high school students grades 10-12. We will provide a comprehensive overview of equine biology, stable management, and industry practices. Students will also catch a glimpse of key aspects of equine history, anatomy, health & nutrition, and industry careers, providing a mix of both academic knowledge and practical skills. This class on its own will fulfill requirements for one high school leveled elective credit.
For an additional fee, local students desiring to fulfill one high school lab science credit can do so by completing our hands-on learning labs in addition to the online workload. Farm day labs will take place at our beautiful 30-acre equine-assisted counseling farm* in Boones Mill, VA.
Students will have the opportunity for hands-on application of learned material such as barn safety & management, horsemanship, grooming, tacking, and horse behavior.
Prerequisite: Completion of high school biology strongly recommended, concurrent enrollment required. Student must be able to complete assignments using proper sentence structure and grammar. Assignments will be submitted electronically, so prior knowledge of Google Docs and Google Slides will be helpful.
